Effective teachers continue to grow and learn throughout their career. The following is how I plan to continue to grow as a person and a professional. Informal Endeavors:
I plan to utilize district, academic, and personal resources to support me. I find that establishing the habit of getting involved with the community and asking questions within the establishment I work with renders side effects of professional growth.
I typically read about 24 books a year. More than half of those are within the realm of child development, education, leadership and/or art. Engaging in growth for the sake of learning without earning a formal certificate compounds the effects of personal and professional development. I am a strong believer in this philosophy, personally and also know that research agrees.
Attend art shows and visit art museums to increase my knowledge of Art History and its ever changing progression.
Formal Endeavors:
Goal 1: New York State K-12 Art Certification: My masters degree is complete in secondary education in June of 2021. I plan on finishing the commentary of my edTPA and submitting it in July.
Goal 2:Trauma Training for Educators: I am very interested in Traumatic Stress Training for teachers based on the research of Bessel Van Der Kolk. New research suggests teachers who are trained in this awareness can more effectively reach students who are going through or suffering from trauma.
Long Term:
Goal: Dual Certification: I would like to explore teaching ELA and/or Psychology to further broaden my scope as an educator.
